Common Questions About Class A ELDT
I already have my learner's permit. Do I still need this course?
Yes. If you already have your CDL learner's permit, you've passed your state's written permit tests, but this ELDT course is not a permit test. It's the federally required Entry-Level Driver Training theory training that must be completed and reported to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before you can take your CDL behind-the-wheel skills test (pre-trip, backing, and road test). You'll complete quizzes and a final exam within the course, but those are for training completion only and are separate from the DMV permit exams you already passed.
Is this course accepted in my state?
Yes, this course is FMCSA complaint and accepted nationwide, since ELDT theory training is a federal requirement administered through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
Do I still need behind-the-wheel training after this course?
Yes. This course covers the required ELDT theory portion only. First-time CDL applicants must also complete Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training with an authorized instructor before taking the CDL skills test.
How long do I have to complete the course?
The course is self-paced. Your progress is saved automatically, so you can log in and complete each section on your own schedule, on any device.
